Vista Command Prompt Here

Tuesday, 10 February 2009 09:25 by Paul Taylor

So if you have been doing development before on XP and using the one (or more) of the power toys that you could download and are now using Vista, you may want to have the ability to right click on a folder and select "Command prompt here"

Good  news is that you don't need to go and download the power toys anymore - this functionality is built right into the OS (albeit hidden away)

So what do you do? Simply hold how the shiift key and then right click on the folder and there you go, "Open Command Window here" magically appears.

Below shows doing this from the desktop but of course you can do this in explorer which is you normal port of call I suspect.

Kudos to Tim Sneath for this secret little gem plus the info on network folder mapping which is also very cool.

Hotmail with iPod touch

Monday, 2 February 2009 12:04 by Paul Taylor

So I have finally gone and got myself an iPod touch and it is a great gadget. Sony have sort of lost my favour due to not being able to watch things downloaded with the BBC iPlayer on my NWZ-A828 player... (see an earlier post on this)

Time to try to figure out how things work. The first thing I wanted to do was get access to my email, and although the iPod does not have a direct setting for hotmail (of course you get config for gmail/yahoo and exchange) this surely has to be possible right? Well yes it is - Microsoft now allow you to configure your POP3 settings as long as you pay for Hotmail plus (of course!) The settings are all detailed here.

Handy.... Simply go into you mail settings on the iPod touch, add an account as "other" and use the following settings:

Incoming Mail server: pop3.live.com

Outgoing mail server: smtp.live.com

Works as long as you can put up with having just your "inbox" showing - wonder now how I can see my other folders?! Will figure that out in another post I guess..
